Buy Binos Save BOFs

Recently a local police department shot and killed a woman brandishing a cordless electric drill and acting in a threatening manner. It appeared she was shot several times from across the street, when she aimed the drill towards the officers.

Now, I wonder if one of those officers had stayed by the car and used a pair of binoculars to verify the type of weapon the woman was holding. I believe that since average citizens can use binoculars to follow BIFs (birds in flight), trained officers should be able to use them to follow BOFs (blacks on foot). In fact, most bird watchers seem to be very old white people, so the younger, more vital police officers should have no difficulty.

Now it could be determined that the drill did indeed constitute an immediate and deadly threat, if so, I guess you have to bite the bit or get screwed or fire a lot of bullets.

Since so many blacks are shot by police brandishing weapons that represent an existential threat to those officers, shouldn’t it be practical to at least verify the lethality of those weapons as an initial part of the encounter. I say, therefore, buy binoculars for our police and save lives.

If old whites can follow BIFs, police should follow BOFs with binoculars first.
